About the workshopThis is the first in a series of workshops that we hope will further the growth of our community, being an event by trans philosophers and for trans philosophers. The Building a Trans Community in Philosophy workshop will take place on 4 and 5 September 2023, online through Zoom. We feature presentations in all areas of philosophy - speakers do not need to be working in trans philosophy specifically. In addition, we host testimonial talks in which participants can share their experience of being trans in our discipline.

What
We feature presentations in English relating to topics to building trans community in philosophy broadly construed. Research talks do not need to be in the area of trans philosophy specifically but can be in any area.
We also host testimonial talks. These talks may be sharing/reflecting on experiences in philosophy as a trans person, but we also are open to other contributions that do not fit a typical research talk format. For a detailed schedule, please check our Eventbrite page. Why
The motivation behind this workshop series goes back to July 2022, when we hosted the first UK summer school for and by Trans Philosophers. The main goal of the summer school was to bring together early-career trans philosophers, to create a sense of community, share our work and get to know each other in a safe space. The summer school grew from the observation that, while trans philosophers - and trans philosophy - are gaining more visibility in our discipline, we nonetheless keep experiencing backlash and exclusion.
Building on the spirit of this summer school, we now want to organise a series of workshops, to continue the growth of our community - by trans philosophers and for trans philosophers. who
Our workshops are restricted to people who consider themselves trans as they define it (broadly understood as including non-binary, gender-queer, gender-fluid, agender). If you are not sure if you are trans or if anything of these labels fit, this event is also open to you.
We have ambitions for future events that include our cisgender allies. |
